SNOWWHITE 2025

Here's my take on the 2025 live-action adaptation of Snow White.

Basic premise of the film:

The 2025 live-action adaptation of Snow White is a musical fantasy film that recreates  the classic fairy tale. The story follows Snow White, enacted by Rachel Zegler, a kind and strong-willed princess who joins forces with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother, the Evil Queen, played by Gal Gadot.

After the King dies, his newly married wife the new Queen, stepmother of Snowwhite takes over the throne and rules with an iron fist, forcing Snow White to flee and seek refuge with the dwarfs. The Queen, fearing Snow White's beauty will someday surpass her own, consults a Magic Mirror daily, asking it to name, "the fairest one of  all".

As Snow White navigates her new life with the dwarfs, she meets Jonathan, a bandit who becomes her ally and potential love interest. Together they hatch a plan to overthrow the Evil Queen and restore peace to the kingdom.

Here's my positive and negative aspects of the film:

The film features stunning visuals, catchy musical numbers, and a talented cast, bringing a fresh spin to the beloved classic.

The film, directed by Marc Webb, attempts to reimagine the classic fairy tale for a modern audience. Rachel Zegler doesn't justify as snowwhite though trying to bring a sense of resilience and depth to the character. She also showcases to the seven dwarfs, how team work can be fun in completion of task at hand.

She unites everyone, the bandits, the dwarfs and others for the common task of getting freedom from the evil queen. Gal Gadot's portrayal of the Evil Queen is not so much  noteworthy. She reminds you of wonder woman more.

However, the film's efforts to modernize the story sometimes feel dissonant with its fairy-tale roots. The story line, though written in good faith, is unable to engage its audience. It feels long and jarring.

The movie's visuals are rich, but some CGI elements, particularly the dwarfs, have sparked debate among audiences and critics. The new song by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul add a fresh musical layer, but it is forgettable.

One of the most significant issues with the film is its heavy-handed approach to socio-political themes, which occasionally sacrifices the whimsical charm of the original story. The film's pacing also feels uneven, with some scenes feeling rushed and others dragging on.

Overall, the 2025 live-action adaptation of Snow White is a visually enchanting and musically invigorating retelling of a classic tale. However, its attempt to modernize the story and incorporate contemporary themes don't hit the mark.

If you're a die-hard Snow White fan, you might enjoy this adaptation. However, if you're looking for a faithful retelling of the classic lore or fairy tale, you will be disappointed.
